I searched for a past thread and found none, I'm looking for some end caps to tap into the exposed ends of my bumpers. I'm sure someone has been here before me, any suggestions? |

Pick up some freeze plugs from the local auto parts store. They are available in a bunch of different sizes. _________________ Jerry...

What size tubing? I have some nice plastic caps if they are 1.5" X .083 - .134 wall tubing...
They are from Caplugs, but you have to order 300 min. I used to use them on a product I made and have extra.

Hi Zancat,
They are standard 1.5" OD bumper and engine guard, both are double tubed, so I would need 8 caps. If you think they would fit, I would be interested.
LostinBaja: I thought about a freeze plug, in fact I even picked up a couple of them, they fit but they have that 'concave' look, I was really looking for something to finish off the bumper/guard that would give it more of a rounded look. Something that would 'plug' in and meet the outside diameter.

Would it be possible to find a steel ball large enough to fit in the tube and weld it in,then finish the weld? |

I welded freeze plugs to the ends, convex out then sanded the welds smooth. Makes a nice rounded end. Not the best picture but you can see a little.

Yellermax,
I like that, wish I would have thought about it prior to powder coating, right now, I'm looking for some sort of cap that plugs in. I'm sure there is something out there. The plastic ones that Zancat mentioned, might just do the trick, at least where I'm at now.

Yellermanx, did you make that bumper yourself? If so, you did a really nice job on it. And you have been awful quiet lately. Good to see your smiling face! _________________ Street legal fiberglass rocket ship

I do remember years ago a machinist in our shop used to make them out of aluminum on a lathe. _________________ Street legal fiberglass rocket ship

Try going to a truckstop. I found some chrome end caps that just pop in. I think they are the right size. 1 1/2 tube is used for fender supports on big rigs alot. |
