A couple weeks ago I was Westy camping in Austria outside of Vienna when another Westfalia poptop van set up next to us. It became the center of attention and lots of people stopped to look or take photos. Lots of conversations ensued and I got to have a close look as well as take part. Later I found out they had a Youtube video demonstrating it.

There were lots of VW Westy and Reimo campervans of every just about every generation camped there as well. Mostly newer T4, T5, T6 but a handful of T3 like mine as well as a T2 bay window for one night.

That's a really cute van. The lack of side doors is a bit puzzling, but Westfalia did a nice job of maximizing the available space and layout.
Wiki lists the production facilities for the Mk1 as the low countries, the UK and Turkey. _________________ Casey--

Yes cute, it looks better in person and people are really drawn to it. The rear only access means no bike rack, etc back there and the owner did mention that as a drawback. Bikes are a pretty big part of European camping.
Also next to us was a late T3 California, turbo diesel with auto trans and power steering. Hadn't heard they built T3 diesels with auto but I saw it with my own eyes. It was actually broken down due to an electrical problem but I took care of that so he could head back to the UK. He had limped in from Budapest but it finally died solid when he stopped to check in at the camp. It was pushed into the campsite by some local help.
