Once he opened the bus this is what he found, I never opened the engine compartment after the accident, so this was ll new to me too, via pictures of course
motor survived and tranny had the nose cone and tranny mount explode when everything was pushed forward with the impact , torsion housing was also pushed and bowed forward with the force of the accident

torsion housing came out and new one went up next , easier said than done, or so I'm told
this one right here I found here in the samba in southern california and and Johnny was kind enough to go grab it for the project
you can see how bowed forward the old torsion housing was from the impact in this picture

a few other things worth mentioning are :
this apron was the first piece I bought for this project from Corey Bloom when the bus was still sitting all banged up here in Long Island and I had no future plans for it yet, I just knew it would get fixed one day, I bought it cause it was Fire engine red and I knew it would come in handy one day.
I flew to visit Johnny February 2013 once he had the bus and he was just getting started with the project, we dropped the tranny at rancho to get it rebuilt and hit some junkyards, that was fun, this is what they turned out
before and after
that same weekend I dropped off the front bench to Matt Miller at winter OCTO , the back part of the seat got bent from when Leana went flying backwards with the impact and it got bent , him and Johnny got together later on that year to complete the trifecta and this is what he turned out
The Engine did survive the impact and when I got the bus back to Long Island I rebuilt it at my friend Andy's shop, I think I had posted picture of that a few years ago, but here's more that motor came out beautiful

I'm also convinced that this bumper saved this bus, had it not been for it, the whole rear would've been shoved to the cargo floor

I offered to get all this pieces new including the corner and long panel, he refused to, he wanted to save all the original metal, he clearly had the right idea. |

I just read this whole thread and it was incredible! The resurrection of this bus and the metal work to make it happen are insane and I hope to see it in person one day! _________________ '67 Beetle L41
