On my ‘67 I had to lay on my back on my creeper and roll under the apron. There was a small plastic cap that pulled out and I was able to use a flat blade screwdriver to push the latch and get it open.
I’m not sure if yours has it but thought I would suggest it. |

I have a similar problem with a 65/66 deck lid lock. The button will not push in enough release the lid. Has anyone solved this without cutting off the chrome handle?
From the back of the apron, I can see the ends of the bolts that hold on the latch plate. They are on pretty tight, but was wondering if trying to loose them from behind would be worth the effort.
Thanks in advance |

So, I ended up cutting off the chrome handle. My paint is in decent shape so I wasn't that comfortable cutting that close to the rubber seal (as recommended in an old post). Instead, once enough of the handle was removed, I estimated where the screws were located and just drilled thru the remaining chrome in those locations. Once the drill bit reached each screw, they just backed out. Once all three were backed out, I could open the lid. |
