I always wondered about this too, so I just went down and uncovered my unrestored, original paint 1955 Deluxe Sunroof Beetle produced in June 1955. Here is the City crest of arms on "Martha":
Looks like a four brick, and I love the texture of the blue water in my crest. Well, there's another data point for you all. Now I've gotta dig through all the parts boxes for my project 1957 Beetle Kabriolett and see what that crest looks like!

Here is the crest on my 1956 kabriolett ( Aug 9, 1955 build date) 4 brick also.

Wow, Didn't mean to offend. If I had know you were really sensitive about your car, I wouldn't have commented.
I wasn't picking your car apart. Just saying I didn't agree with your comment that it was "all original".....Which it isn't all original. |
Lol, I’m not sensitive, and I didn’t realize you were so sensitive about me using the word “all” instead of “mostly”. Your reply had nothing to do with the original intention of my post or this thread. I know my car isn’t 100% original, but the crest is original to the car, it’s a 3 brick, and that’s all that matters regarding this thread. This isn’t a debate post about how original my car is or isn’t. You could’ve approached it differently and asked if the crest was original because you noticed the paint and taillights weren’t, but you didn’t. |

My old 57 had 28,000 original miles on it. It has a 3 brick hood crest.

I've just finished making this clock, all original crest badges, have 4 4 brick ones, 4 3 brick ones & 4 later black ones. Used some reclaimed oak boards to mount them on.

Even reading this thread, im a bit confused.
I understand the brick parts and pegs part, but I take it you should be able to pinpoint it to a specific year..?
KSP stands for... what?
I know its not a repro. But would appreciate help with a year of make.

Just ran across this thread. This is the only early crest I have. Looks like a 3 brick by PuC.
What do you guys think? |

I dug up 3 emblems from a box I've had on the shelf for years and found out that the middle is a 4 brick. Are they worth anything?

The hood crest was also known as the "wolfsburg crest" ended for the start of the 1963 year of production for beetles. All cars pre 1963 had one on the front hood above the hood handle.
|
Actually the crest continued into the 63 model year for several months and then was dropped.
Chris |
That new to me also, what is this based on? |
Some of the early 1963 model beetles did have the hood crest. It was dropped sometime in late November or early December. |
Has anyone seen a 63 with a hood crest and a sunroof which started late 63? _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]

Dave already posted above on this page a photo of the original Wolfsburg 4-brick badge on my original paint, unrestored, accident free USA spec June of 1955 Deluxe Sunroof named "Martha".
The badge that came with my late Dec of 1956 (1957 model) project Deluxe Beetle Kabriolett (which I'll finally be diving into soon!) is an old Wolfsburg 3-brick coat of arms. I'm now wondering if the 3-brick badge is correct for this old Kabriolett? I suspect that it is.
Discuss this amongst yourselves and feel free to comment!
Bill "BulliBill" Bowman
p.s. I just put about 40 miles while tooling about this very morning, what a sweet car "Martha" is! _________________ I'm looking for these license plate frames for my fleet:

I think I've read through ?all? of the posts about 3 and 4 brick Wolfsburg crests. I still don't get it. Posters refer to "3 bricks" and "4 bricks". Which bricks or rows or bricks or ?????? are being counted??? Thanks, I'll sleep so much better knowing the answer. |

I find the quicker way to tell, is the tip of the wolf's tail. If it curls to the right, it is a 3 brick version. _________________ ( ⫏ ⫐ )
