I recently bought an Empi style frame. I'm trying to document what it IS.

I prefer to sell it to someone who is an avid Empi enthusiast, if that is you, great. I really also would like to accuractly identify what it's true identity is. I have all assemblies to make it street legal and that would be plan B.

It may well be, yet it has an identification mark. 8041856 which could be #8 month day year. 56 would place it in the Empi time period. I do not think it is an Empi per se, but rather some spinoff. It is likely made up of parts out of a kit. Intriguing. Street legal would be a usable vehicle.

The chassis number is from the VW bug which the body was removed and probably junked. EMPI first made/sold Sportsters in 1963, so the bug was junked/salvaged sometime after that.

I saw the ad for that one in Reedly. I've talked to people who have been around the hobby since the 60s and they say a quite a few Sportster type buggies were built by small shops in the Fresno area.

I picked up one in Modesto a couple years ago. I know builder made at least two others exactly the same, still trying to find out who that was

Interesting. Fresno is 35 miles north of me. What did you do with the one you bought?
