Does anyone make/sell a serpentine kit with a spring loaded belt tensioner for a type 1 engine?

They all have a tension pulley.

Thanks Glenn.
I do understand that a tension pulley is required in all applications.
My search was for a SPRING LOADED type that does not require manual adjustment with a wrench loosening mounting bolts.
I admit to being inherently lazy... Very Happy

Sorry, i misunderstood.

This is a MST and does not have a spring. That would make it easier.

I guess I've been spoiled by the modern self adjusting belts used on most cars these days. I can't imagine someone hasn't perfected a tensioner for our VWs but thought I'd ask before reinventing one.
Don't leave the porch light on waiting but I'll get there eventually.

One thing bought up in another thread is tensioner pulley may not have bearings in them.... Might look at/for that feature...

Good point Dale, although I can't imagine trying to use a tensioner pulley without a bearing.
There are lots of different pulleys and spring mechanisms out there so shouldn't be hard to adapt one. The trick may be in the mounting.
Will keep you all advised.

SCAT doesn't have bearings in their tensioner the aluminum pulley just rides on the bolt Rolling Eyes . Get the weakest tensioner you can that fits if you make your own. I ran mine with the belt so loose you could almost pinch it together. it didn't slip until I got up above 6000 and then you could hear it squeal a bit, better than blowing up a fan.......I save that job for velocity stack covers......

Thanks Brad.
I'll keep your spring tension advice in mind.

Yup, along with all the new parts on order is s screen for the fan. It's out in the open in the new car so having something to keep rags, paper, and small children out of the fan isn't a bad idea.

How's things in Morrisburg. I'd really like to get back to that neck of the woods before too long.

Curious.....how is it you're familiar with this area?
If it's been a while you would notice some changes. We now have a Giant Tiger, Canadian Tire, Dollarama, McDonalds, Tim Horton's, Pet Smart, Subway. Population isn't that much bigger at 2350.
It still gets hot in summer, cold and snowy in winter.
What part of AB are you in?

I'm in Saskatoon, SK.

My Mom was born in Iroquois and we still have family in Brockville and around Tincap. Her family lived in Morrisburg for a bit also when she was young. My Grandfather built TVs at the RCA plant until he retired in the early 80s
