I know having the option to bend up to 180 degrees is always nice, but is it necessary to build a cage for a buggy?

I'm not to that point yet, but are there any bends past 90 degrees?

I would buy the 180 dies. You may not think you going to need it now, but in future projects it maybe what you need to use.
Look at some of the off road chassis and the rear area by the engine there are some that use more than 90 degree bends.
Also if you want to make a rock crawler style front bumper, you will use the 180 degree die.
I use my 1in 180 dies to make nerf bars.

I was definitely thinking about a 1in 180 die. Wasn't so sure about one in 1 5/8, but I guess it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Not required but nice to have.
I also bought the 180 with my 1" die.

Only time I used the 180 was for my front bumper hoop.....

Jake,
What is the reason for using 1-5/8in tubing in your project?
More common is the use of 1-1/2in unless vehicle is very heavy.

Once people find out you have a bender, you will have a lot of new friends.

NHRA requires 1 5/8" tubing for drag racing. 1 1/2" may be OK for a sand buggy rolling in the sand but it is not large enough to protect you from a highway accident with a 5000 Lb. SUV or a concrete wall.

How about the larger diameter? Every bend anything greater than 90 degrees?

I know it would be nice to have, but it would be nice to have the money too... Wink

Honestly.... not sure yet. I wont be racing it or anything, just using it as my daily driver. Plus I noticed that there are a lot more clamps and mounts readily available in 1-1/2in.

Hmm... I wonder if I should keep it a secret. We'll see how long that will last.

No bends greater than 90 Degrees on the 1-5/8 ths Dia.

Spend the money if you are buying a 1" die. Save it on the larger. I bought a 2" also but just kept to a 90 degree on that one as well.

Have you ever bent tube before?? I bought the Bend-Tech EZ. Best money I ever spent. Saved the money 10 fold with saved material.

I bought both 1.5" and 1"180 dies, and a 2"die at 90. The 2" gets used for mud truck stuff while the smaller 2 get used the most.
