|
|
Lately I have been seeing many Zwitters with black window rubber especially in the rear windows. My friend has a '53 with chrome window trim in the rubber window gasket.
Was this a normal factory installaiton or an option on the Zwitters? |

Deluxe zwitters had polished aluminum trim in all the windows. It was not "chrome," or anodized. The hood handle was also cast aluminum with no anodizing. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

and in a shamelss plug for my wanted ad in the classifieds, I'm looking for some original side trim for my zwitter, which is also the polished aluminum material and not like the current chrome varieties.

Yes. All windows, side trim, hood, and runningboards are non anodized aluminum trim. Ventwings are of course chromed.

A friend of mine took the ordinary oval later side trim and grinded the shiny surface off with VERY FINE sandpaper.
Polish away any sanding marks then and let it sit outside for a while.
After that treatment youŽll have your Zwitter trim.
It looks all original and is cheap. _________________ Master of my domain! |

Years ago I did the same- removed the anodizing.
When I began finding all the original pieces, I discovered the genuine side trim is made of a thicker aluminum than the later side trim.
Looks somewhat alike, but entirely different. |

In the Progressive Refinements it says that the
mouldings was eloxided "anodized" and polished.
Is that wrong?
Or it may be that the eloxided was so bad the first year that it has disappeared over time?
