Can't wait to see more progress on this car AND on the engine!
Seems like you have a very talented friend there. When I saw the pics of the car as it was rescued, I didn't expect it will turn out so nicely.
And the enigne is just......wow!!!
I also purchased an Okrasa engine from Scandinavia but your engine is something really unique. Do you plan to use these "exhaust" tubes in your car? |

I remember my father, who is still alive and well in his 90's, and who was in aircraft design during WW2, and aircraft engine design afterwards with Rolls Royce, describing this kind of cylinder surface to me as a youngster, as being 'Honeychrome'. I've not seen or heard the term used anywhere else since.
Obviously a play on words, being the honeycomb finish of a chrome plated surface, which allows for the greater retention of oil within the cylinder walls. https://www.finishing.com/2200-2399/2309.shtml |

Thanks all for the Nice comments
Had the areas that need welding blasted this weekend.
Was not sure to do wheel wells also to keep the Og paint but glad I did Because some more holes came up and I want it 100% solid from the first time

Hi
I work with a lady who services vintage aircraft engines part-time.
We were talking a few weeks ago about a problem I'd had with the valves on my truck and she started to tell me about VW aero engines that she used to service.
She explained that they used twin magnetos rather than the distributor/coil/generator system used in road engines (apparently it's quite tricky to set the ignition timing with the twin magnetos).
How do you plan to adapt the engine back to road use? Will you fabricate a pedestal to hold a generator and cooling fan and adapt the case to hold the pedestal? Or has it already been adapted? _________________ Andy
Looking for info on my truck's history. Are you from Campbell California or nearby. Do you recognise it? ... http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=636786 |

This engine used also twin magnetos, directly driven by the crank at ‘flywheel’ side.
There Will be a generator stand welded on this case from a spare 36hp I have. |

i think welding it in would be the easiest way. Then again i like trick "skunkworks" kind of solutions. I think it should get a trick, bolt on flange instead. Looks like you have the fab skills to do that. That way the case stays like it is, stays a special aero engine. This could be a super clean engine. hidden plugwires, coil, etc, go nuts and block off the fuel pump and dizzy, go electric and electronic ignition all put behind the fanshroud. _________________ regards

More metalwork
Rear Apron was pretty messed up , had a big tear, dents and the overal shape wasn't right.
Straightened
Right front fender was also twisted, dented and rusty
Looks better now
Very nice work from Simon again! |

Brought the split over to Jeff at JC welding services in the UK.
He is doing a fantastic job on it, really nice to see it coming together.
