My neighbor just got a 73 FB and we are both wondering about these wheels.

Aftermarket I assume? Any value to them? Looks like they were chrome at one point.

Any info appreciated. Thanks!

Those look familiar, maybe late Type 2, perhaps a Brazilian source?

They look silver painted, not chromed, at least based on those photos.

The look like those in this photo of a custom Bus-derived vehicle from Brazil:

Cool. That looks like them. Thanks!

They were sprayed silver. You can see chrome on a couple of the other ones.

I'll check for an offset stamp next time he has them off. Do Type 2's run the same offset as Type 3's?

The type 3 you have will use the ET46 offset.

Those are Mangles wheels. They were sold in the 80's, 90's, and even the 2000's. CIP used to carry them too, as did JC Whitney. They fit fairly well on type 3s, but I don't know what the offset is. I believe they are 5.5 inches wide. Maybe 6. I've got a set here on a 70 Squareback with 205-65-15 General tires on them.

These are 4.5" stamped.

So they're the same width as a stock t-3 rim.

Brazilian OEM VW wheels from the Brazilian Type 3 Sedan/Brazilia Wagon as well as their Type 3 Ghia. JC Whitney sold them in 4.5" and 5.5" width still through the early 1990's. I remember them arriving in boxes marked "Mangels". Bob- my '70 Fastback had the set of 5.5" wide, which were the same as on your Notchback. The 5.5" had alot more offset/deep dish effect than on the OP's original photo.

Here's a page from the Brazilian Rio Type 3 4-door sedan showing the exact wheel from the OP:

When I bought Sue's 70 Fastback in 1989, it came with a set of 5.5 Mangles with new "flat" style hub caps. We ran those rims on it until 1997 when they got replaced with a set of polished 8 spokes. Those got swapped for a set of regular 8 spokes, as I got tired of spending 4 hours polishing them up everytime I cleaned the car.
I still have them here, but they're on a 70 Squareback that's waiting for some work to happen on it.
