Does anybody have the dimensions and materials for the rear seat frame for a COUPE?
I understand they are all the same until around 1972
I can find lots of info on the seat bottom frame - but not much on the seat back frame

I have a 1970 convertible so I have no way of determining exactly how wide the seat back is on a coupe or how it is hinged and secured. If memory serves me well, the seat is hinged at the bottom using two piano style hinges and fastened at the top to the "raer speaker" tray (someone will be along shortly with better information.) That being said, a post I made a while back on another Ghia back seat topic may be of some assistance if some additional math is thrown in.
Assumptions (I Know... u, me, Etc.)
- The engineers tried to keep things simple
- Construction methods were kept consistent for efficiency
- Materials were also kept consistent
Implementation
This LINK will give you the information neede to build the seat back. In the down position the seat back rests on two rabbets/recesses, on the inner edge of the rear arm rests, that are 36 1/2" - 36 5/8" apart on a convertible. If you measure the distance of the rabbets/recesses on a coupe and add the difference to the measurements in the drawings, you should get close enough to build a template. Once that is done, fine tuning should not be a big chore.

I saw that post with all the drawings for a vert rear seat
really great post
I am replacing my carpet and noticed the Masonite in the rear seat was broken so I thought I would build a new frame
instead took by rear seat apart enough to replace the Masonite
the Masonite part is 30mm(12") x 108mm (42 1/2") and has (4) 15mm (5/8") holes
I guess I will wait until i do the upholstery to see the condition of the rest of the rear seat frame |
