I have an axle stub shaft for bay window bus and I know there is two different lengths according to model year.
Does anyone know the length of the axle stub shaft for bay window bus 1968 to 1970?
Thanks |

What are the units on that strange tape measure?
Anyway, all I have at hand is a 71-79 stub axle, which is 8.25 in. long (approx). _________________ '67 bug: seized by the authorities

The units on the tape measure are centimeter and meter.
Thank you for your information! |

better mic that area where the outer bearing / seal rides. Looks a little worn. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

Hello, so I need some help. I just bought a 72 Westfalia. The person I got it from had just done brake work but hadn’t adjusted brakes, so I noticed there was a gap between the nut and the hub I looked and noticed the nut was against the splines And it was almost past the hole for the cotter pin. The tranny and CVs are out already so I decided to remove the stub axle to see if the bearing retainer ( the piece that goes between the two bearings) was in because there was an extra one in a box, but it’s in there and both bearings are in. The length is 9 inches on it, so that is too long then, correct? Would it be an earlier bay stub axle? Thanks for the help. _________________ 1964 sunroof Beetle Restoration "Herbie"

So it seems. And missing the spacer that goes outside the outer bearing that was used with the earlier stub axle. Are
you sure that's not what was in the box?
There are 71-79 stub axles and hubs and bearing housings for sale in TheSamba's classified ad section, FYI. _________________ '67 bug: seized by the authorities

Thanks, for the confirmation. The spacer wasn’t in the box. I ended up getting one at the junkyard a few days ago and installed it. The one in there was an inch longer, the tall one was the earlier one that was installed
