I hope it's okay, when I contribute to this thread with a few pictures of buildings about well known companies around my hometown.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I start with a dark chapter of my hometowns history.

No building, but what you see are the remnants of the SWF-Spezialfabrik für Autozubehör Gustav Rau GmbH, in short SWF (buildings in the background are not part of it).

From 1943 on, this was the production plant for wipers with the education center next to it (to the right in the above picture).
In 1972 the company was bought by ITT automotive, but did still use the SWF name with the buildings also still carrying the SWF logo.
The logos did change from SWF to ITT eventually, but I do not remember when.
But it was funny to see, because the building got so dark from the nearby through road, except behind the old SWF logo, that you could easy imaging, where the old logo was, because the new ITT logo did only cover parts of the old spot.

When ITT was bought in 1999 the logos were changed again to valeo and now you could see the old spot of the SWF, the ITT and the new logo at once.

Valeo did move the production plant (will take picture of new plant, when I have the time) and so the old plant was no longer in use and was demolished in 2013. This is what you see in the picture.

Future plans from city administration for this place are to create a residential district.

This old gas station is on 2nd street right off the mother road Route 66 less than a mile. I don’t know what brand of gas they sold but you can see through the years station was added on to, look right. Pic was yesterday as I was downtown playing around.

This is the administration building of the formerly Deutsche Linoleum Werke, short DLW in Bietigheim-Bissingen.
The logo has changed a few times. I remember from DWL to Armstrong DLW back to DLW Flooring.

The DLW plant covered the whole area (now called Bogenviertel) between the Bundesstraße B27 and the railroad. The administration building with the main entrance are just a small part of it. Impossible to capture the whole area with my camera.
The old and still standing buildings are currently used by valeo and other smaller companies. Mc Donalds opened a restaurant in the Bogenviertel and also the Bietigheim-Bissinger police moved there.

This is less than a mile away from the old SWF plant.

DLW was probably the producer of the Marmoleum linoleum used in the VW Westfalia campers. But I'm not sure about that.

Then there's the focal point of my visit to Tarboro, The Calvary Parish Episcopal Church founded in 1860. All of the plants & trees are different & are labeled as to what variety it is.

Thanks for contributing oprn!

On the way back from Tarboro, I drove through the old warehouse district of Rocky Mount, way too many neat buildings, I’m gonna have to go back.

Hmmm...don't think you have many foreign pictures in this thread...mind you they're all foreign to me. Wink

So to fill the gap here's my '58 Ghia at the historic West Gate, Southampton through which Henry V army marched to the ships for Agincourt in 1415 and the Pilgrim Fathers embarked from West Quay on "the Mayflower" on August 15th, 1620.

The building looks, as if there could be one of these legendary german cylic elevators in it... Have you also been in the interior?

You folks in Europe have an unfair advantage here with so many solid old buildings. Canada is only 150 years old and on the western side where we live it is rare to find a building even 100 years old. Most of our buildings were not/are still not built with longevity in mind. We started with sod shacks and progressed to log structures. Now it's all milled lumber for smaller buildings and steel structures for larger ones.

There is a few older stone and brick structures from days gone by but often they had very poor foundations and crumbled as the frost shifted the ground.

Foundation is just a row of big stones and over the years they are shifting. When we moved here 20 years ago there was a matching stone barn too but it was taken down for the same reasons.

A dirty shame really! My heart aches to see these lovely old buildings die!

Here is the Mordecai Plantation Mansion built in 1785 which also is the birthplace of our 17th president, Andrew Johnson who became president after Abraham Lincoln was assassinated.

Speaking of foundations, this is the oldest house in Raleigh with it’s original foundation.

The bridge is easy.
It's the former Spanish fort that makes this a bit of a challenge.
When I was in Jr. high school. We did a field trip there.

Damn the barbaric things they Spaniards did to sick soldiers.

Brings back memories.
Oh! And the split dog looks lovely in that pic.
I didn't know you could get that close to the bridge in a car.
