I have used german dual port cylinder head tin and they do not fit my new L3 heads for type 1 upright early bay. There is a gap at all 4 exhaust manifolds. Do I simply slip some cut-to-size sheet metal in there to close the gaps or leave it be?

sounds like time for a tin tweak or Dremel / file carefully on the fins until it clears. You can use a sharpie to darken all the areas it might touch then slowly trim them until it clears. My guess is that it is an aftermarket head.

One Caveat - does the original tin clear? If so then maybe the tin is at fault and you might want to explore with the store that sold it to you what they suggest before making any adjustments. Robbie has build several T1 engines lately, maybe he has seen this. I am a bad opinion giver because the T1 complete engines I built were at a time when original factory tin was readily available.

I didn't have that problem, but spent about 8 hours cleaning up casting flash between the fins on my L3's.

so fucking sick of junk.....

anyway, clear the flash out of them. otherwise they will run hot
