I moved the shift rod at end of nose cone into gear. |
Describe how you moved it into gear and did you try different positions?
What moves if you try to turn any one axle in neutral or any gear? |

i pushed that rod all the way into I believe 2nd gear then pulled it straight back into 3rd gear. When I turn that rod where the throw out bearing is neither axle spins. _________________ Be happy with what you have, you will save allot of money that way....

See if you can find the middle ground where neutral is. That rod will spin back and forth when you are in neutral.

Forget that shaft for a second and spin one axle and describe what happens. |

Ok: so when you turn one of the wheel axles the other axle does not turn nor does the input shaft that the clutch goes on? |

But only if it is coupled in a selected gear.

Ok, good, so now you know the differential stuff is intact.
Now try to turn the shifter shaft clockwise and pull towards you (forward) then spin the axle but don't let the other axle turn. |

I finally was able to have someone turn the other side while I also turned the other shaft. The center shaft at the throw out bearing turned. So I take it that means that it is good?? I hope. _________________ Be happy with what you have, you will save allot of money that way....

You're just going to have to roll the dice on that one, you now know at least one gear engages... reseal it and put some fresh gear oil in it. With a little luck its fine!

The wife wanted me to have it rebuilt but I do not know of anywhere close to me, Syracuse NY, that rebuilds bus transmissions. It would prob be pretty expensive anyways, especially if I had to ship it. _________________ Be happy with what you have, you will save allot of money that way....

Check you out...I just cracked your thread open for the first time and read all of page 1. You appeared to be a potential candidate for a collapse in futility. I decided to skip to the end and see where you are, and BAMMM! You've got floors and corners and wheel wells replaced and whatever else...awesome progress. Congratulations for learning your welder and gittin 'er dunn, I bet the wife is bragging about you behind your back now...and even more props for not throwing in the towel and adding another project to the classifieds! |

It looks like he took it to someone who loves on buses.
Nice to see this one being saved! _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

I ended up shipping it to a shop in South Carolina. Can't wait to get it back. _________________ Be happy with what you have, you will save allot of money that way....
