My understanding is that 17-1/4" glass is for the early (non T style) trim. Hope this is correct, there was some confusion early in this thread. _________________ 1972 Karmann Ghia |

I thought I saved the link to the website, but I saw there was a British company that not only makes windshields to fit KG's but that they were also heated to eliminate defrosting issues.
OK, a quick google came up with these guys which I think was the place I remembered, though I'm not seeing any KG products.

Looks like they do custom jobs so a possible resource. |

Just out of curiosity I pinged them and here's their favorable reply:
"Yep made to order.
£360 + VAT and takes around 12 weeks for a one off.
You can choose your tint.

Did you install the T trim on the rubber before install, or after? _________________ 1972 Karmann Ghia |

You have to install the rubber on the glass, then trim on rubber then whole thing on the car. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Put the rubber on the glass then put the trim on the rubber then put the whole thing in the car. Just as Braukuche said ^^^ |

T-trim = seal on glass -> trim in seal -> glass in car
C-trim = seal on glass -> glass in car -> trim in seal |

Nope - all gone. I guess the website is not real-time with inventory?

Hmm, how do you get the trim to seat when the rubber is sucked in when doing C channeling if it's installed? _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

You could put a string in it afterwards but I’d put the trim on before if I was doing it. _________________ It's not about the window, it's about the people.

Visualize the C channel - it sits more on the top part of the seal/windshield than into the seal and beside the windshield edge like the T channel, so the window frame is not affecting installation (see photo below how rope is oriented at top of windshield in seal channel....it’s the same plane as the glass, not perpendicular to it). To install the C channel you push it outward as if you’re removing the seal from the windshield, if that makes sense. With the windshield out of the car you’ll spend more time fighting the seal staying on the glass as you try to work the channel in while simultaneously pushing the seal off in that process. No amount of tape holds the seal in place through that....I’ve tried.
With glass installed in the car first the frame holds the seal in place and the channel is easy to install with a window rope and just a bit of silicone spray.
The T channel is opposite because it is sandwiched between the glass/sealframe. Installing it while out of the car is best, and since it’s applied with downward pressure into the seal there’s less chance of pulling the seal off the glass in that process. |

Makes sense. So, I assume you put the string in. The channel before you install the glass then? As you slowly pull the string out this open the channel to grab the chrome trim then? What size string are you using? _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!
