I just installed a new brake booster and master cyl into a 74 westy and am suffering non releasing brake occasionally. It finally happened nere a jack and I found front and rear locked up. I checked the free play{good) then loosed the 13mm holding the M/cyl and the brakes freed up with just a couple of twists. Is it possible the rod in the booster is too long? The brake are to dam good _________________ 2010 Bonneville record holder Type 2, 36hp

There are usually shim washers under the pressed in tip of the booster rod, some MC's require removing one or all. Worst case scenario shorten the rod slightly with a file or add some thick gaskets between the MC and booster. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

also some 1971 and later models have an adjustment on the rod that pushes from the pedal. Changing the master can require a check there. See Bentley Master Cylinder where it explains how to adjust the servo and master to work together. pages 5 and 6 in my Bentley Brakes and Wheels. Those systems are adjusted at the clevis because the pushrod is a solid part. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin

If you just installed a new aftermarket booster you probably didn’t adjust the rod _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

If you used one of the new Airtec servos like I did, I measured how much the rod protruded from the face of the servo on the original and then adjusted the one on the Airtec to match it. Mine has worked well for a year now. _________________ If you haven't bled on them, you haven't worked on them.
