OK people,

Some of you have customized you engine compartment so that you can remove the rear apron to make engine removal/install easier. I'm afraid I will need to do the same. Seeing how I'm craming a Type4 motor in attached to a Porsche 915 5 speed transmission, the 2 bottom engine studs are longer that stock VW and think this will be an issue pulling the engine backwards to get it out.

I assume both rear apron peices need to come out; the section inside the engine compartment that the hood latch attaches to, and the outside rear section that has the indents for the pea-shooter tail pipes.

How did you bolt in? Extra metal to reinforce things?

So, you got pictures of how you did it?

Think

Great link!

But I find it so curious that it is in the body and paint forum.

Yes, it is body work but of almost zero interest to anyone reading the thread except a Ghia owner.......... my way of thinking says to put it in the Ghia section.

I stumbled upon a Ghia thread months ago detailing a 70 Ghia Convertible tub rust repair in Body and Paint.
I questioned it's location and a Super Moderator admitted putting it there years ago. He felt all body repair threads should be in the Paint and Body thread. I convinced him to return it to Ghia whereupon it has become alive once again and is now frequently added to by the OP.
OP had wondered what happened to it.

Probably the same situation???
