Speedometer restoration shop says that the MPH can be geared to accommodate different tire sizes, but the odometer will still be off.

Then he mentioned: unless you splice a (thing-a-ma-jig) into the speedometer cable. Any idea what that could be?

I'd like my odometer to be accurate, but I was trying to go with wider front tires, like 175/55, or taller.

Search the interwebs for "speedometer correction" and you will find some options.

so basically what they do is put a gear reduction in it to match the wheel rpm to your spedometer reading. There are some that you can put in yourself, but if you are realy changing up the tire size you may want to get a VDO that can be programmed to match your wheel speed
