Anyone in Southern California?

My parents are out there on vacation right now, and their 2002 V6 Passat dumped all it's oil (not sure what type-engine, trans, etc) in the parking lot of Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank.

My suspicion is they cracked the oil pan but hard to tell from Kansas...

Anyway, wondered if you had any recommendations of a shop to get it towed to?

Or anyone able to help drop an aluminum pan and weld it up?

Thanks,

Dave

Pans are readily available & are easily replaced on a 2.8 in about an hour.

Yeah, at last contact, they were having it towed to a shop nearby. Hopefully they don't have any trouble finding a pan. It's an easy repair if you're at home, not so much if you're on vacation! (And not that well-versed in car repairs and/or unable to crawl around under one.)

My folks ended up at German Auto Specialists of Burbank, which Mom said seemed to be a one-man operation. But she said Steward was a very helpful one-man operation!

It was indeed the oil pan.

Mom and my cousin took a taxi cab over to the shop, and beat Dad and the tow truck. She said as soon as it was there, the guy was crawling under the car and checking things out, and as soon as he found the crack in the pan, he was on the phone getting a new one and telling the people he needed it ASAP because they were on vacation and trying to leave town.

He got the new pan on pretty quick and they were on the way. Both folks felt that the $250 total was more than fair given all the circumstances.

As long as it was done right, you got a really fair price for the circumstance you were in. Good to hear there are still some good shops around.
