With the Ghiapet's first track date coming up this weekend, I still needed to get the last seat belt retractor mounted. While inspecting the passenger side box & seeing how the panels were rusting, I decided to embrace the Ghiapet's new lot in life & stripped out the remaining moldy, dry rotted interior, shitcan it & start addressing metal preservation.

Yeah, it's just rattlecan, & the next potential buyer might cuss me, but at least they won't have to replace as much metal. Or maybe, it won't rust away on my watch.

OOoh, look original firewall tar board. Rolling Eyes

And finally, with seat belt retractor in place.

Next up was removing anything that could retain moisture.

Thank you sir!

In and amongst all the little crap that I needed to do before tomorrow morning, I got a top coat on the lower part of the parcel tray and like the BS that flows at a campfire story, I laid it on thick.

Then I needed to ensure that the battery was anchored properly & since the original clamp wasn’t up to the task, I made a new one to supplement it.

And finally, I got around to putting some clamps on the fuel hose & secured it with the remains of a roll of welding wire.

On a side note, it’s amazing how many pointing fingers & shocked faces you get when you launch a 45+ year old car through an intersection. Twisted Evil

Sadly, the event was canceled due to weather. Sad

I got my first “I’ve got one of those, would you be interested in buying it?” with the Ghia this morning. Then he proceeded to tell me everything he did to it since he pulled it out of the barn & shot me a price. Yeah, sure, you do realize that if someone has one then they’re probably not going to pay top dollar to collect another right?

Thank you sir!

If I have just 1/10 of the adventures with the Ghiapet that the Sommers have had with their car then I will die a happy man. Laughing

The rain here has been relentless but I still managed to tinker along with preserving the car. I started with wire brushing & vacuuming the inside of the firewall & parcel shelf floor.

And wiped it down with acetone.

This morning I wiped it down again with acetone.

It ain't a restoration, it's a rustoration. Or a Rustoleumoration, but most definitely an abomination.

The Ghiapet did in fact make it's first on screen debut (that I know of), I've had several locals tell me that "they seen it on the news".

Join me next time for the newest installment of "how to destroy your classic car's value".

Still better than letting it return to the earth!

I was hoping 1 of the 2 bodies I've got would have a solid parcel shelf but no such luck. Seems to be a problem area.

Oddly, this one is actually pretty solid.

Here’s a disturbing fact for y’all, do you know what removes spray paint from your fingers?

That KFC grease will likely prevent rust as well.

I had to have some fun exploring & to see just how capable the beast was, the ground was definitely soft from all the rain, but it just plowed right on through the 6-8” deep muck.

I have to say, my favorite build. Some auxiliary off-road lights would be cool if you have any extra money lying around.

Funny thing, I actually have a set of period correct Do-Ray 600 lights by Do-RayLamp Co. that I removed from a '64 Cortina GT that I had. I just haven't gotten around to getting them on there.

Today, I decided to tackle purtyin' up the exhaust as it was starting to rust after burning off all the paint. nothing much to see here, I just attacked it with a wire brush & hit it with some VHT "Flameproof" exhaust paint. I guess it hadn't dried completely as it blistered a bit when I started to run through the curing process.

Oh well, it's better than it was & I have plenty more paint.

Until next time, ALWAYS take the path less travelled.

If the auxiliary lights don't have the Cibie or KC HiLiTES Daylighter name on them, keep 'em on the dust collector shelf... Very Happy
