Spent the day hand sanding shaft mounting block just to move it a tad over but
Will take forever for the 4 of them.
Decided to try new rocker mount with narrow nylon washer.

Before you sand them all, try swapping them around to see if any fit better in other locations. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

Thank you tdctdi but tried every which way & then some more.
They seem to be a problem with lots of folks.
Fingers crossed new rocker shaft mounts fit with original pushrods kindly purchased from Greg Ward in Australia.
Aftermarket new build challenging. |

It appears that your missing the lower air deflector on the #3/4 cylinders & the little square metal one on the #1/2 head. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

Just don’t go much further, you have to remove the cylinder head to get it on. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

Well that sure is a drag. I hope no damage was done outside the pushrods, at least they are not a massively expensive component... |

That's handy. If I may make some recommendations in the interest of your safety:
1) Discard the cheap spring-loaded clips on the battery connections, which are prone to sparking and poor conductivity, and replace them with real battery cables, which can carry some current, and;
2) Perhaps don't have the battery (which could produce sparks) so darn close to the fuel canister (which can erupt in a ball of fire).
I can appreciate the effort that went into making the setup so compact, but sometimes safety should really take precedence.
Good luck! |

Bet that the clamps on the battery are from a charger.
Find a gas tank from a junk lawn mower to use for the setup. Less fuel to cause a problem if something goes wrong, less volume in the tank to have gas fumes in. Has a hose outlet so the fuel line can be connected to for much less possibility of flames/explosion, and a cap to keep the fumes from just pouring out. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

That one looks like a marine application that has the pick-up tube in it & one-way vent valve. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

That's interesting...perhaps what I overlooked was that you may not have your large cables hooked up yet...(of course, your starter's not on).
I thought those little cables were going to be the only ones, but now I'm guessing that those are only to power the box (and coil, etc), and you still have to put the big battery cables on. Sorry if I jumped the gun. |
