I have never seen this kind of clock before. Face design corresponding to 45-49 split or Porsche Gemünd speedo face. Diameter of clock is working for splitbug speedo or clock pod openings. No stamping on rear side.
Any info on this clock or it´s application (pre 50 split? KdF Wagen?? pre 50 Porsche 356??? Coachbuild???) will be greatly apreciated.

Owned a '50 Mercedes 170-S, and this wasn't the right clock face for that. Don't see any evidence of where the winding mechanism is on this one. Quite likely, it'd have to be on the side for a Bug. If on the bottom of the case then most certainly for someone else that had access from under the dash (i.e. Opel, BMW, Mercedes, Goliath, Hansa, Lloyd, Adler, Triumph, Auto Union, Wanderer, etc.). Looks like it slid into place from the front of the dash, and fastened in place with a bracket over that threaded post on the back. Interesting clock if you owned the right vehicle for it, but its configuration doesn't seem to support the VW theory. |

pretty sure I saw one like this back in the eighties and was told it was from a german coach. would have been fitted in a roof mounting so passengers could see it. |
