Little confused about the Split Bus History?

I’m a little confused about the History and Production of the Split Bus model. Am I correct in stating that the Split Bus was produced in the 1970’s in another country? Because I keep seeing 70’s Split Bus for sale and I’m scratching my head. Is there a really detailed History of which Buses were produced in what years and where?

I’d like to know more about these 70’s Split buses . Where were they produced, when, how many were made, and so on. And I’d like to know where to find the info please. I must have missed the answers searching for the info. Were Split buses produced any other decade? The 80’s or 90’s?
