What rear shocks are suggested for a 1977 Super Beetle Convertible? Purchased suggested shocks from Mid America and they do not fit. Existing shock is 17 3/4” long while Mid America came in about a half inch shorter. Also did not have the spacers at the bottom of shock to keep it from moving back and forth along the attachment bolt.

Hoping to purchase from local auto parts store.

Purchased my shocks from wolfsburg west. They have plain oil filled shocks for bugs. I do not recommend gas shocks, they ride to stiff. Dont know what you have from mid america, are they gas?

About 15 years ago, I bought Gabriel gas adjustable shocks for the rear of my 1971 Super Convertible, and pump in air to lift the rear end (imagine me with a sagging rear end !!!). Anyway, I bought several large washers at Ace Hardware to center the rear of the shock in the opening.

I cannot remember at this time if the rear shocks I added to my 1970 sedan 1.5 years ago needed any spacers.

Bought the Gabriel brand shocks for my bug from RockAuto. I like 'em. Nice ride.
They came with the spacer bushings too in the box.

Also I have heard great things about WolfsburgWest's shocks too.

I have a pair of these I grabbed locally from Autozone. O'reillys should carry them too. Affordable, but too soft for me, so I swapped them for KYB excel-G's from Amazon, but my super has lowered struts up front with the stiffer inserts already, so it would likely be fine with a stock front end.
