Does the adjustment have the proper range of motion and hold the mirror tight enough so that it doesn't move from being buffed by the wind?

Have them on both of my cars and they stay put. Just tighten them up good and no problems.

I'm really interested in picking up a set of these mirrors for the 74 I just got. They had some abominations screwed into the windshield frame. What I need to know is what can I do to provide something for these mirrors to screw into? Nothing visible on the car.
Ideas? Thanks!
