Yes, they are reproductions... for a Ford. From talking with people, they are very close to original 15" Lemmerz rings. |
My point is they are substitutes for a VW, not attempts at a VW reproduction.
There are at least two types of 15" Ford rings that fit the VW rims and look nice. One style has more of a single radius curve to it and the other is sort of a subtle "S" shaped profile. It looks like the ones offered are the curved style which have a bit larger face as I recall. |

OK, I have about 20 trim rings, some 14s as well as 15s most of which are Lemmerz dated and stamped, some with the VW stamp as well as Lemmerz stamp. However, some are obviously not Lemmerz and are not stamped and have no markings at all but look very similar to the Lemmerz. All of the rings I have were salvaged from various places from old VW wheels and appeared to be original to the car. My question is: Did VWs ever come from the dealer originally with "correct" wheel trim rings that were not Lemmerz? , i.e. were there manufacturers of VW trim rings other than Leemerz? |

To follow up the question on identification - I have what I think are three NOS 14" aluminium rings. They came in VW packaging but do not have a stamp. Does anyone know whether VW produced rings? Is this a 14" only phenomenon or is it likely they are something else entirely??

Everett, the rings have no markings, I have uploaded pics into my gallery. I bought then as NOS in the box - see the VW part# on the box. I have a marked lemmerz (used) to compare with. I cannot tell the difference. _________________ the invisible and the non existent look very much alike |

The above quote is from my post of about 12 months ago on this subject. From Ev's own "VW Facts" info one day about a week ago: Late 60s wheel trim rings were manufactured by Del-Krome Corp in Walton, NY. Sorry Ev, I didn't remember to write the fact # down. Maybe you can look it up. But, I know for a fact there are a lot of VW trim rings out there that are not Lemmerz. |

I think this applies to the beauty rings on later 4-lug Bug/Ghia/Type 3 wheels but it's possible. |
All I know is that I have several Lemmerz rings and several other rings taken from VWs that appear to be original and they are essentially identical to the Lemmerz but they have no stampings or markings. |

Chromed steel Lemmerz trim rings..
I recently picked up 2 steel Lemmerz trim rings, one 16",and one 15".
I can't find any reference to steel 15" rings? It's stamped Lemmerz, the date stamp is very faint, can only make out the 3 (March). It's the same size/shape as the alloy/annodised versions. When did they change from steel to alloy?
I have a 15" alloy version stamped 4/55, so thinking maybe the steel 15" is 53-54 beetle cabrio?
As found..
Lemmerz stamp on the 15"
Date stamp on the 15"
15"
Stamping on the 16"

Does anyone know a source of "close" trim rings? I see $400 repo's are being sold. I am looking for something more affordable.
I have heard of Ford trim rings before. Does anyone know of a link please?
Thank you |

Having done a tire/wheel swap at the weekend, I had to pull the beauty rings from my 1964 13 window van (fitted with 15" wheels)
There is no month on the date stamp, but it just says 63:
Took a little bit of effort to refit them, as my old wheels had a build up of paint, which my new ones don't. It's very important to bend out all the individual tabs to ensure that they fit snugly, and don't fly out when on the highway. |
