had a good few days on the fassty and got some stuff done, fist thing was to get the rear axle mounted to the chassis.
another job i wanted to get done was the front of the chassis where it tucks into the front panel.
the radiator in the pics wont be used as its to small. |

very busy week this week, got the core support done , which also holds the front wings and the front bumper mounted.
all seems to fit pretty good as even on full lock the tyres dont touch the arches.
once the front bumper was fitted it was then time to get it to fit the front panel, so i have moved the mounts in wards and sanded the bumper so it fits nice and snug . the ends will need some work to make them fit the same.
also started the exhaust , using standard range rover manifolds i have modded them to run a 3" exhaust system and am now at the stage of planning the route to take them to the back.
put the bonnet on even though it still needs to be extended by 6" just to get an idea of how it looks and to be fair its better than i thought with the gaps all being pretty good.
more soon. |

Just wanted to say, this post has been my inspiration for our V8 super beetle. Students have been enjoying our build, and I've enjoyed reading yours. _________________ It's not the fall that hurts, it's the sudden stop at the bottom.

Amazing work as said many times before. Is the plans for this to be full on show? or do you plan on enjoying it and driving it? _________________ 1971 Squareback, fully bagged, 1776.

cheers guys for the comments its much appreciated.
oxsign,
the plan is to get it as nice as i can, run it for a summer and then sell it because at the end of the day this project is only a dummy run for all the parts i am making as i go. the plan is for the next project i can just order all my parts and cut my build time down, well thats the plan any how.
back to the fassty now, been waiting for a few parts to come and now there here its back on it.first job today was to make a support bar under the dash (like they do on modern cars ) to support the brake servo.came up with this.
of course before i did this i cut the dash out of the shell to give access.
made up the servo mounting brackets which i well get welded tomorrow.
the brake servo will sit recessed into the bulkhead so i made up a mock bulkhead just to get the position right.
i am also going to run an electric power steering column which i have got from a corsa b and this will also be mounted to the under dash support bar.
more tomorrow. |

Great work, following this thread with keen interest as I am doing a "Beetle Flatbed" front wheel drive type 4 motor and gearbox.
Please let me know how you are going to wire the Corsa b power steering as I have mine as well and need to fit it later. (if you have info, please PM me)
Your chassis, what is the steel sizes if you do nor mind me asking.
keep up the excellent work.

I think someone on here did a GM or maybe it was a Toyota electric power steering add on. The unit bolted in under the dash with a few brackets added. Very slick set up.
He did it, because he had limited range of motion/lack of upper body strength in his arms. Or something like that. Might be worth a shot at doing a search. Just a thought. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Thanks but not wanting to hi-jack fassty v8 thread but as it may be of interest to him as well,
have the same parts as above, the mechanical is easy, the electronics is the issue,
as you need speed sensor inputs as well as delay timers from the ignition switch and other inputs to make it work correctly
otherwise it becomes impossible to drive on the hi-way at high speed as the whole lot gets too sensitive.
If someone has the wiring diagram with whats needed, it will help us all.
Now let me give back the tread, sorry.

retrovan,
i have got a box of tricks that run the corsa b steering rack from a guy on ebay, i will put a pic on tomorrow.
back on with the build ,
front wing inner mounts now sorted and im on with the front bulkhead panel.
as you can see i have recessed the brake servo in to the bulkhead panel so that it meets up with the servo bracket under the dash. more tomorrow, |
