I've been having some strange electrical issues pertaining to the ignition switch on my 1973 Super. I went to replace the switch due to a number of reasons, and found that all of the new switches have had some difficulty working correctly.

The issue is, and I've only found this to be an issue when it's cold, I will crank the car and it will fire up, but shuts off the moment I let go of the key and it springs back into the "on" position. However, today I discovered that if I get on the accelerator pedal after releasing the key, the car will stay running, and if I hold the accelerator for several seconds, the car will idle normally.

I have not yet tested this with the car warmed up, but when I tested the switch at the place I got it from (having been driven for about a half hour beforehand) it worked without issue.

So I'm wondering, of the three new switches I've tried, all have had the same issue. Should I continue looking to the ignition switch for a solution, or does the problem lie possibly in the connection between the switch and the coil / idle solenoid, or somewhere else?

Thanks in advance

A test light tapped into the black wire at the coil will clear that up pronto, but 3 different switches doing the same thing exceeds even the lowest of Chinese parts quality lowness, you might have something going on in the back too.

I figured it out. For some odd reason, the choke was the cause of the issue. When I adjusted the choke downwards about 1/8", it fired right up without any issue.
