Hey guys, I have been installing the Wolfsburg West deluxe rubber/trim kit on some OG '56 glasses. The rubber seems to be almost too big. The slightest nudge to the windows and a whole section will pop off glass in spots. The windshield is the worst, and what my primary concern is. Just had a hell of a morning getting the trim seated inside the seal. The seal is sloppy on the bottom curved section of the windshield. The metal trim is helping it stay on right now, but I'm concerned about it all popping out during install on the car. Is there any trick to keeping it tight on the glass? Could I possible roughen the outer edge of glasses with sandpaper and use 3M weatherstrip adhesive in a few spots?

Any help would be awesome! I usually do the cal look seals and don't know what is normal on the deluxe style.

masking tape, leave it on when installing windows. it will rip when you pull your string/cord

Thanks Rick. I have the green body tape on there now. I will install my drawstrings then install some more tape. One thing odd I noticed is that the original seal made a mark on all the windows...it was seated about 1/4" higher up on the glass when looking at the bottom. When carefully prying into the bottom seal of the quarter window and windshield, there is maybe only 1/8"-1/4" of seal depth Shocked that the glass sits in! Just doesn't seem right. My WW seals seem to need at least 1/4" taller rubber channels for the glass to seat in. If I tape them all together, maybe I will get lucky and it all doesn't fall apart.

That lower edge on the windshield can definitely be a challenge some times. You can either use masking tape, as suggested, or even some string to hold it in place until it's set into the windshield opening of the car. You definitely should never need to sand the edge of the window or glue it in place.

I have never tried WW window rubber, but I have read various reviews that were less than stellar, unfortunately. In the past, I've always used West Coast Metric rubber and until recently, always been pleased with the final result. The last time I replaced the windshield rubber on my oval, I did end up using Vewib rubber and was pleased with the overall fit on the car and window, but not as pleased with how the trim installed.

If the WW rubber really seems too big to fit correctly, I might suggest switching to another brand...either WCM or Vewib.

For installing the trim, I worked up a tutorial that might be of help to you, as I know from experience how difficult it can be:

I never bought anything from WW - shop at Bughaus.com - they carry WCM rubber and always fits like a glove...near perfect.
