Just purchased a 1993 Eurovan GL 2.5L 5spd with 69K. Ordered all the parts to do the timing belt except I'm having trouble finding the tensioner [part #023-109-243].
Anyone have any leads on finding this tensioner. Dealer didn't have it. I've ordered it from at least 3 places online that said they had it in stock--only to receive a refund a few days later when they realize they don't have it... Is this part out there?
Greatly appreciate any help!
Best,
Brian

I have one on backorder with VWHeritage in the UK. It's been several weeks, so not sure if it'll materialize, but they say the order is still active. I did take my old one to a machine shop to see if they'd try to replace the bearing in it and thus avoid a need for a new one, but they said they thought the bearing was not replaceable given the design. I'm currently running my old tensioner with a new belt and idler pulley. |

After scouring through this site, I came across a post about a 5 cylinder rebuild and someone listed
https://www.vanagain.com
as a supplier of parts. They have the tensioner, just didn't get a chance to update here. Check them out. They sell the tensioner with a belt kit, but they have it and it was cheaper than the one I attempted to order in the UK with shipping.
It arrived Friday, so they had them in stock as of early last week. Hope this helps! |

Thanks! I'll contact them! Is it OE?
Edit: NM, found the link. I'll see if VWHeritage is gonna ship soon, and move on to vanagain if they still don't have a close ship date. Thanks! |

We do have timing belt kits for the 92-95 (early) Eurovan 2.5l Gas in stock. These are made by Dayco and come as a kit only with the timing belt and tensioner. The kit is $125 plus shipping. Right now, as far as I know, we are the only source for these in the USA and Canada. I have sold quite a few and I try to keep them in stock. I am not sure how long my source is going to last. If you think you might be doing a timing belt replacement at some point in the next couple of years, I would grab one of these kits while they are available. I can't or won't sell the tensioner without the belt. I have to buy them this way so if you already bought a timing belt, you should either keep it as a spare, or send it back to the supplier. Here is a link to the kit on my site:

Hi all,
Can anyone direct me to where I can get replacements for our 93 Eurovan? We need a new timing belt kit and shocks. Would be to have them shipped-- no installation required.
Thanks.
@vanagain--do you have either of these in stock to be shipped to Miami, FL? |

So, do we 5-cylinder folks all need to start buying up these tensioners/kits where we can find them?
I wonder what sort of option we are going to have when these dry up?
We did the T-belt service, with all necessary replacements about two years ago, and have only put a few thousand miles on the van since that time, so I would like to think we have quite a good span of miles to go but...
>Ken - do you have any insight to whether or not there may be a source for these in the future? _________________ 1993 Weekender - Hula

We have been selling these at a brisk pace. For a while in the fall I was selling one per day! At this point, I have been exploring all options. I still have a few of the Dayco kits left. After that I have been getting drips and drabs of timing belt tensioners made by JP Group. It is strange because I can't seem to get more than just 10 here and 10 there, but I have been getting enough to keep people happy. In the future, I am going to keep pushing JP Group to make more available so we can meet demand. Supply and demand, usually keeps the wheels going. For now, if you haven't done your timing belt in a while, you might want to buy a tensioner just to be safe for the future. _________________ Thanks,
