Hi, my fuel tap (1958 Australian Beetle) has a very slight leak from the threaded part. It’s a new replacement, with new filter and seal. My question is, how many fibre seals should I use and in which order? To explain, I’ve seen images / diagrams where the seal is dropped over the gauze filter, another diagram where the seal is fitted first then the filter, and also one diagram which shows one seal fitted first and a second seal fitted over the gauze.

Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks, Nick

You should have two seals installed: one between the filter and tank, and one between the filter and fuel tap.

It’s likely not the seals causing the leak.

The installation of the tap to the tank is critical. Please read this thread:

Page 4, I inserted a picture and description of how to properly install. Makes all the difference!

Despite proper installation of the tap, mine leaked when I only had one seal installed. Installing the second seal as shown in the diagram fixed the leak.

Many thanks, I originally had one seal over the filter, and when it started leaking moved it under the filter. I’ll get another one ordered and make sure I’ve got both in place properly. And I’ll make sure I install as per process on page four.

Thanks again, Nick
