All right all you 36hp power guys, I just got word that the 36 hp H Beam rods are done and are now being checked out in quality control. These will be available in either 20mm or 22mm wrist pins. I should have a set of each here in a week or two to check out and test
Thats weird. I asked AA if they would make 25hp pistons and cylinders which are close to 36hp but they said no. Jim

Can you "Heat Treat" VW rods, The Honda Road race guys used to HT there stock rods and you would be surprised how much stronger it made them. I think it was Jackson Racing that was doing them.

I thought ARP had rod bolts for the 40hp rod bolt that fit a 36hp rod, I think its the one used for Formula V motors

Just a quick update since I bought this set of AA performance H beam rods a few months back. I'm doing some minor modifications to my stone stock engine in the Bonneville car so I thought I'd poke this engine in that I used the rods on to see how it runs. A short parts history:

H beam rods/20mm pin
WW grind cam
Dome top piston set, ceramic coated tops
Ported/polished heads, ceramic coated chambers/valve faces, 33mm intake
HD outer spring/new 25hp inner spring
28PCI/24.5mm venturi
Stock exhaust
010 distributor

After the initial run and break in I finally found the sweet spot where the carburetor and timing is happy. I think the WW cam would be better suited for dual carburetors and/or the dual port heads. It was a little challenging to get the single to behave. I'll put up some run results on this thread for the camshaft:

The engine runs very good and pulls hard past 4200rpm. Take off was about like my stocker but around 2200rpm it takes off pretty good. Still a little tuning left to do, I may install my Pepco blower to try it out with this combo. This will be my spare for this year on the salt.

Do these rods bolt down easier then stock? No alignment issues?

Wow..I thought 36hp at Bonneville was dead... there's been no real posting about this years event...I was thinking of attending..but it seems interest has faded..I hope I'm wrong.
Thanks Mr. Motor for the post.

Nope.....just everyone (including me) seems to be really busy this year. There are quite a few 36hp engine builds going on right now. This has been the first chance I've had to work on my own stuff. Thank goodness I didn't have to build a car for this year. I'm trying some crowd funding, check it out:

We're bringing a bevvy of 36 horse motors down this year. But ya it's been a pretty quiet year on the forums as far as Bonneville goes. IT will be a good year to go as Burly is expecting A LOT of VWs this year.

I wish aapistons made these 36hp h beam rods in different lengths instead of just the stock 5.110 and had smaller bolts like 1.4 x1/4 like porsche 356 h beam rods have ...come on aapistons give us more variety 🤔🤔😉
