The bearings were easy though.

Once I have the tube inside the tyre, I blow into it to inflate it very slightly. This helps to not pinch the tube when you tighten the wheel halves.

I just picked up an Essen trailer. PO didn't know what year it was, no papers. Any way to tell from the VIN?

So there is a version of this wheel without split rims? I'd be interested to know how the bearings and axle set-up work.

Yes look back through all the pics in this thread. You will notice most trailers dont have split rims including the last one I posted above here.

the early Essen trailer (68-73/74) all came w/split rims, later on they were often changed -when rusty- to regular steel rims, ...split rim production discontinued aprox midt 70’s

I was told mine is a '67 but there's no date on it that I can remember.

That looks awesome! Where did you have it made? My original has some cracks.

That turned out really nice. Looks like you figured a good path for the bungie as well.

I'm still not sold on the final path. I played with it some more after taking those picture and I'm currently thinking a two bungee connection is somehow part of the equation. I did do some looking at other Westy trailer canopies and Essens online, but no one has good pics of how the rear flap is connected.

My other trailer looks to have the OG bungie - maybe. Its path is similar if not the same as yours.
