As we are all aware the aircooled world 's momentum is in an incline, in terms of vehicle prices. With 356/splits/buses going for incredibly high prices.
With that said, what's the future of oval prices going to look like, say 5-10 years from now? Are we going to be talking of $25k+ ovals as the norm and "good deals"?
There are currently two '56 ovals in my immediate family, both need work and the discussion of how much to invest in them has been thrown around. We are not sure what's modest/smart, so asking fellow owners what they think the future holds? _________________ **1971 Super Project

Well, post up some pictures on what you have, or have not, and I'm some of us will chime in, and feed you some possible alternatives. As long as we have inflation prices should reflect that, then theres the possible chance we'll have a run away goverment that totally out laws the automobile...and they'll be worth shit.

If the question is about future values and you don't want to actually drive them, don't invest in anything except for proper storage.
If they are missing parts, keep an eye out for the parts you need for good prices and pick them up along the way, it should increase the value for them to be more complete.
Of course, a running/driving car is worth more but unless you are selling now, no reason to spend money to make that happen if they are going to sit afterward for a long time. _________________ How to Post Photos

... in the past, we had a 1950 11G and a couple of other split buigs, a 1960 23 window and 1964 21 window bus - a 1960 1600 super and 1954 pre-A Porsche coupes - 3 bubble Messerschmitts - a 1956 Isetta. Who ever thought those things would have escalated in price as they did. Now, I can't afford them. So, i'm collecting what I can afford - ovals.
i'll bet they increase in value too. _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

I think the market on ribbed door ovals have gone up more with 56/57 cars staying fairly steady. _________________ GFK

I think we exist in an inflated market on many old things, including cars. A lot of this inflation, as I see it, is due to a baby boomer generation having lots of spare time and money. Many older antiques, collectables and things like cars are going to drop in value as these baby boomers start selling their collections off to downsize. It's actually already happening in the antique market and some cars are going to suffer too. VWs are fortunately popular with a younger crowd, so I think they will suffer less BUT I think we will see a drop or steadying of prices. |
