Put a gallon of High Build Polyester primer on the beast.
Now it's back to the sanding block, More primer, more sanding, sealer and top coat. Hopefully I'll have color on it in a few weeks.

I dream at night about an almost empty garage to work in. After moving stuff I'm to tired to work on my Ghia.
Post more pictures if you have them..... nice job. _________________ ----------------------

I put a set of Pedrini Porsche 2 liters on my Ghia. And installed a KPH speedometer.
Long story behind each of them.
I bought the Pedrinis from someone in the US. The wheels went missing in Portland for a month. When they arrived another month later, I found that they were not straight. Another $450 spent to straighten them. I'm keeping the original wheels.
The speedometer arrived here (in New Zealand) yesterday at the end of a 5-year search for a KPH speedo.
One big job left to do, maybe 2. The list gets longer as I think about it:
Alternator conversion
Sound system (maybe) _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

Chris,
I like the Pedrini wheels better than the stock wheels. As for the metric speedo.... good move. A metric speedo removes that uncertainty when using MPH speedo on metricated roads.

Hi Nicholas, I forgot to mention that the Pedrinis have a VW stamp on the rim. But they went onto the Porsche 914 2 liters. I like the Pedrinis too, but my wife has made me promise to keep the originals. My collection of duplicate parts is growing. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

X2!
Those Pedrini wheels are beautiful, and they give your Karmann Ghia a more "sporting" appearance than the stock wheels.
Also, it just feels "right" to have a gauge that's calibrated in kilo-somethings on Emiko's car.

When I read your comment to my wife, she said, "I'm going to make my second husband put the original wheels back on the car." Revenge for the time I introduced her as my "first wife", I think. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

John's HDR photographs always stand out, but it helps when the subject is outstanding as well! Beautiful car. |

I have not done much to mine lately besides drive it. I took it up to a local shop and bought a couple of valve cover gaskets, and I'll use those when I do a valve adjustment next week. My wife totaled our other car, and she as been using my daily driver a lot, so I've been driving the Ghia in more situations.
I took a day off work today, and was snoozing when a friend of mine asked if I could drive her to school. I said "Yes" before remembering that I had to shower and get dressed, then I found out the only car there was the Ghia. Oh well, a brisk drive it is! She's a budding actress so it was a fitting entrance for her. It's kind of poetic, as people stare at the car when we pull up, then they stare at her when she gets out. She's quite stunning and, as beautiful as a Ghia is, they make a good match. |

John, Nick picked a sweetie. Understated two-tone paint, stronger engine. Is it an early '64 model year with later front blinkers? Excellent photos! |
