Anyone with any suggestions on where to place a subwoofer? Thinking about powered tube under the back bench seat, but wondered if others had ideas. Thanks in advance.
Pics and/or other thoughts welcome. |

If you had one in a sealed container, you could mount it under the van & port it in, much like the rear heater.

Depends on which interior you have, but if putting it under the rear seat on an MV/Weekender, then it might make sense to attach it to the bottom of the seat itself, rather than the floor...since the entire seat rolls forward on those. The passenger seat pedestal has room for a small sub.

I have a 10" Sony subwoofer (the 5-sided driver) in a minimally-shallow box mounted in the pedestal under the front passenger seat. The volume of the box is clearly way too small, but I've been able to compensate by packing it full of cotton batting. An old MTX amp is mounted under the dash in the corner of the passenger footwell (above the plastic trim that forms the 'ceiling' of the footwell).

| My buddy recently bought a 2002 with a small sub under the passenger seat, it sounds great. I have a blaupunkt powered sub waiting to be installed under the front passenger seat as well, once I decide where/how to route the power and signal wires. |

This year I installed a Nakamichi sub under the passenger seat (which is now a swivel seat by CNC in the UK). All new speakers (infinity brand) in the doors, dash and rear. I picked up a used golf City headunit for almost nothing and ran a GREAT ebay harness. I mounted the volume control for the sub in the otherwise useless pocket above the cigarette lighter and the bluetooth adapter is there, too. The sub is powered by the house battery.
One thing, the blue LED on the sub volume control is very bright so I put a drop of black paint on it so now it more of a halo. If I could do it again, I'd swap out the blue LED for a dimmer red one.
Since the photos were taken, the trim piece under the radio has been installed and a cubby installed, too. Many thanks to the folks on the forums who routinely post great, helpful information.

While installing my webasto heater I had the front seats out so, it was time to install the powered subwoofer in the passenger seat base. Here's an outline of my steps:
1) I routed the power with the other wires under the carpet from the Driver's seat base where my AUX battery resides, over to the passenger seat base. This was the easiest part.
2) Next I routed a single RCA cable from the headunit down to the floor, I had the console out already. I lifted the carpet up from the rear the best I could although it is glued down and this was a real pain in the ass. Then I fished a straightened out coat hanger from the console back, taped the RCA cable to the coat hanger and pulled it through.
3) The blaupunkt sub is auto power switching so no remote power was needed, just the main power and the audio signal ; I tapped a ground off a seat base bolt.
4) I suspended the amp with a few straps, 1/16" x 3/4" steel from Lowes.
5) Made a few adjustments to prevent rattles and then put the seat back on.
The sound is noticeably fuller, there is definitely more bump in the passenger seat but the whole thing is pretty tame still. All in all, this was an awesome $35 ebay investment. Here are a few pictures to save on the million words:

Nice work, and yet another mod I have to implement in my efforts to keep up with you.
Do you ever plan on installing a swivel on that pedestal?

Yes, we have had a swivel for the past year. It is a good and bad. We love the ability to rotate the seat around when we are parked/camped but the extra 1.25" height is very noticeable and causes my wife discomfort in her legs. A taller person would really feel like their head is against the ceiling and looking at the top of the windshield. I plan to either build a new shorter seat base or cut the original base down.
Next project: removable "jumper" cabinet with stove top; are you ready!? |

Are you able to run the seat heater wiring up through the middle of the swivel with the sub there?
I've been contemplating how to build a modular set of removable cabinets for a while now.

No, it did not fit through and was not long enough. I cut the seat heater wire a few inches past where it comes out from under the carpet and extended it about a foot or so.
I'll be doing a cabinet soon and will post in a new thread. Here's the cabinet my buddy just made, it fastens to the hooks in the floor for the jump seat:
