Just had a new Bosch VW Voltage Regulator (12 Volt for GR15,16 & 17 Generators) installed in my 69 coupe to fix a voltage issue. In looking at the work order from the mechanic, his not says that a digital voltage regulator requires the car to be driven/started every day.

Is that true? Would a 'digital' regulator drain a battery that much?

Thanks

I've never heard that.
Back in the mid 90's I had a solid state Bosch regulator out of a Mercedes in my engine bay and never had a problem.

I've never heard of that either. Battery is relatively new, so I won't worry about it until it won't start, but I suspect I won't have a problem.

Thanks

It's an analog voltage regulator and with the key off there is no current flowing to the field coils. However, the power diodes have a small amount of leakage current. I measured 0.00000004 amps. on two different regulators.

Would that be 400 millionths? I don't think there is anything to worry about.

Really? The resistance in the wire of the meter leads would have that much of a current draw. Cool

Yep, it works perfectly with that digital regulator Laughing
