So, the set design crew will be coming by tonight to "dress" the front of the house for an extra walk through scene. So I will find out tonight wether the Bus gets to stay put and get it's shot a stardom. Perhaps it will even make it's way to the old busses in movies thread.

Well, Nic Cage has been trudging around our yard and driveway for most of the morning, and, more importantly , my Bus has been in frame for a good number of shots. So look for my Bus in "A Score To Settle" also featuring Nicolas Cage.

No credits, but while the crew was filming , and supposed to be watching the little screen to see how the shot was going, like all the second unit directors and such, they weren't , they were taking pictures of my bus with their cell phones.

I must say, the entire crew and cast, including Nicolas cage, were extremely professional and mindful of being in someone else's space while filming.

Actually looks like it might be an okay film.

Okay the movie junk is out of the way, now I need to complete some things before the Bus goes for paint.

I installed the Safari Windows, well mostly. They are screwed into place and the lock tabs are in place. I just need to weld in the side and centre support brackets. Before i can do that I need to have a 220V welding plug installed in my carport for the welder I picked up.

I also installed (and removed) the one eyed duck, and the bent "Safari" antenna.
And , thankfully I found a under dash parcel tray that is the correct one for my year. That whole thick lip/thin lip deal messed me up, but I got it off the Samba classified all the way from Vermont. It's in really good shape just needs to be cleaned up a bit to be ready for paint.
The next thing I began to tackle was the front door windows frames. I've read as much as I can on the subject before diving into tearing them apart. I don't know what all the fuss was about, they came apart relatively easy. Mind you, I have tried to put them back together yet.

These will be sand blasted clean, epoxy primered, then high build primer and sanded smooth to be ready for the booth.

I guess the final step that will need completion, is my dash hack. I have some special new plans for that too.

It's all happening very fast now, nice to be back at it.

The progress on the bus is still moving forward at a pace that will hopefully get things done enough to go for paint in three weeks.
I have completed the install of the Safari Windows.

These windows were purchased through CIP1.ca , but they are the Wofgang windows. All in all I am pleased with their product. The only problem I had was with the shape of the weld-in brackets, especially the centre one. To get this one to fit best I ended up cutting it in two and welding them in one at a time. But in the end all lines up nicely and has smooth operation.

Just need to hit the brackets with some epoxy primer. not too sure how the headliner material will go over and around these? but that's a problem for another day.

Next is the dash completion.

The brackets? The headliner stops above where the brackets mount.

Are you certain? I thought my headliner went all the way to the dash nearly as it looks to be original grey primer and adhesive residue left there.

I'll have to have a look at my old photos of interior.

That makes sense. I cant find pictures of mine pre-gutted, but that could explain why my windows leaked so badly in heavy rain.

Moving on with the last repairs before paint. I need to repair my dash hack.

I started by welding in the lower section of the dash, as I could weld down from the top easily through the front windows (with them removed , of course).

Once in place, the opening will then manicured to fit the sectioned dash piece back in place.

The next step...

Audio head unit location is the root of the problem and is why the dash hack happened in the first place. I also wanted to have a tach, not in a pod on top of my dash. Well the unit that i was going to use got discontinued and i had to search for a better alternative. Which happened to be a full depth head unit, which does not fit my hack, or the original location.
So, I decided to flip the centre action of the dash, much like it was a rhd dash and locate the tach closer to the speedo pod.

In this location the head unit has enough depth and clears all pf the wiper mechanisms and the tach is located in a nice easily visible spot.

A bit more stitching it in and smoothing it out, then off to paint.

I am just prepping the welded in dash section for a bit of spot filler. I will be spot welding in the last couple pin holes and grinding them out, but as a whole it is pretty straight and very little need for filler.

This is the last week to prep before it goes to paint shop.

just updating progress with the dash hack, repair (hack repair).

I applied the filler and sanded and did that over about 6 times to get the imperfections out. Had to get inventive with the sandinding to find a shape for the complex curve at the top of the repair area. 1/2" wood dowel seems to be the right size to fit the inner curve of the dash.
Still need to do some coats of high build primer and some sanding, but this is what it looks like with the epoxy primer on.

Really not that much filler was used, or actually remained.

It should look alright in the end.

Just gave a quick massage of 500 grit wet to the freshly touched up rub through spots.
This gives me a good glimpse into what it will look like once the Glasurit line 22 goes on and has been rubbed out.

You must have enough paint left to not worry about rust from the water.

Yes, the first stuff that went on the bus after media blasting was epoxy primer to seal it all. Then a three coats of high build primer, that I still managed to sand through. Then touched those up with more 2K epoxy primer.

But, a thinned epoxy primer will still go on as a another sealer before paint goes on.

I am seriously considering "lacing" the roof. A bit of kick back from the seventies hot rod era.
