It seems that pretty much the only barndoor body work not being repo'd now is the doortops. So I thought it would be useful to have a thread discussing how unique they are. (I've missed those BD detail threads )
Answering questions like-
Are there differences through the BD years aside from the obvious 2 quarterlight types?
What parts can be used/hacked of late split doortops?
My personal interest is the part I have circled in red. Is this identical on later splits. One of my 51 doortops has this piece completely twisted and was wondering if I could weld on a late split section.

No, the outer seal is different. 53+ door tops use an outer seal similar to a pop-out. 52- attaches differently. What rubber is used to rebuild 52- door tops? |

Fancy selling a couple cheap then?
So is it right that 53+ barndoor owners can just fit any late year split door top and it be correct (not counting glass)?
But for pre53 not only is the quarterlight unique but so is the frame due to the metal trim used to pinch the rubber seal?
Below is a rather useless pic of my 51 frame with what's left of the original seal.
And heres why I needed the section circled in red
Perhaps I can straighten it |

A couple of small differences I've noticed
Frame lower bar > catch channel [no.47] screws [no.48] changed from flat headed screws
to phillips headed screws
sometime between 1953 & 1955. Would be good to narrow that down.
Also the 53-55 vent window catch tab echoes the barndoor safari tabs.
Flat, no rib, convex top curve.
Guess the tab design changed in 55/6?
Edit: Greg N says tab was updated sometime in 57 _________________ -StockRocks- |

The latch plate change happened in November 1957 #303 ... when they changed from flat top to dished top...the Safari dash tabs followed the same change.
The slot headed screws on the slider latch plate were used up till around mid '60 i think before changing to Phillips head, they used the same screw for the license light lense on post '58 Buses. |
