Next was getting the hinges off of the door, which proved to be a hassle as another two stuck screws needed persuasion. All screws out, door panel off, cleaned up the door for new rubber weather strip.

The old lower hinge is trash. I doubt it can be repaired or rebuilt. The upper looked salvageable.

Hinges on, screws tightened, door panel and door seals glued in place, let's throw that sixty pound door back on....

All's well that end's well, I'll fiddle with the striker adjustment some more, but my baby is back together in much better shape. I forgot to mention I did do a new door catch/roller kit in this door too, and I'll do the passenger door next along with new seals.

I forgot to ask, how does the door seal attach at the upper corner where the hole is?

Anybody? Can someone explain? Pics?

Can someone post an up close picture of how the rubber door seal attaches to the top of the door above the latch?

There is a hole there, is there supposed to be a screw or some sort of fastener?

Thanks in advance.

No fastener at that top hole. The door seal has a rubber "ball" at the top end. You lube up that ball, then fully push it into the hole. Apply contact cement to the seal from the ball downwards so that it stays in place on the door.

I have a couple of originality questions:

Are these the correct color heat control knobs for a '66?

Was there a Karmann Ghia specific e-brake boot for KG or do I just have the wrong year boot pictured here? The original on my car has the screw holes worn into it, I bought a solid used replacement, but the "snout" of it is shorter.

I know these are small details, but does anybody here know?

Lawrence, the two heater knobs are correct for a '66 Type 1 Ghia and Beetle. The e-brake boot is also correct. I just checked my photos of a very original '66 Ghia Coupe that was at the Aircooled Gathering, NJ in 9/2013, with 43,000 miles. It has the same boot and knobs as your photo below. I "think" the e-boot front snout section was eliminated as of the '67 model year.

I didn't notice the difference until I went to install it.

Thank you for the reply.

I guess I keep looking for the right part. Also, who makes rubber floor mats for our cars?

Anybody? I haven't been able to find anything new or used, I'm mainly looking for a good used driver's side.......

Okay, so I did find a good driver's side floor mat, it came and is more black that the dark gray/greenish original mats. Anybody need a good driver's side mat?

Also, do Karmann Ghia doors have pre-nutted doors for side view mirrors like my Karmann built 914s do?

Anything inside the door from the factory?

64-66 doors share the same part number. Cut and paste from door diff thread.
I can read what's in the parts book. This just shows when the doors change, not what changed.

The parts book mentions a left door "143 831 051 F" from chassis 5677119 to 1461021300, which is start '64 to end '66.

Then there is a left door "143 831 051" from chassis 147000001 to 147999000, which is start '67 to end '67.

Then there is a left door "143 831 051 A " from chassis 148000001 to 140310000, which is start '68 to end '70.

Then there is a left door "143 831 051 B " from chassis 141200001 to 14132000, which is start '71 to end '71.

Then there is a left door "143 831 051 C " from chassis 142200001 on which is start '72 to end of production.

The Right doors do the same thing but the part # is 143 831 052 etc

I haven't covered doors prior to 64.

Mirror mounting hardware.
