I though I would show off my Burro. We’re driving it to Colorado at the end of June from Alabama. It’s a 67 all in house custom built by TVR Automotive in Tuscaloosa Alabama. It’s has a 2110cc engine with, Engle W-90 cam, CB Performance Panchito 044 heads with 61cc CNC combustion chambers,7:4:1 compression, Mahle 94mm piston and barrels, CB Performance super race rods,Forged 4140 chromoly 76m crank, forged 1:1 rocker set with Elephant foot adjusters, full flow case, 1-3/8” sidewinder exhaust with relocated muffler, Empi D series 45 center mounted carburetor,Pertronix Ignitor III distributor and coil, welded cooling fan, custom A/C kit. It has tons of torque! I don’t know what the horse power is, but it stronger than a Toyota truck with a 22r in it! Going up a long grade in forth gear is no problem. You don’t even have to down shift.
The transaxle is from a 67 bus with big nut reduction boxes, modified Scat super diff, welded 3rd and 4th gears, hardened keys,Kennedy stage 1 clutch with stock flywheel, custom in house made no hop kit for redux boxes.
The body has a 3 inch lift with in house made front lift spindles with disc brakes, 3 inch widened front ball joint beam with torsion adjusters. Has 30x9.50-15 mud tires on 15x7 wheels.
The rear suspension has 27mm Sway-A-way torsion bars and spring plates.
Has a full in house built roll cage, all custom made bumpers roof rack and ladders. 5000lbs winch.
The interior has 2006 Honda Civic seats, gps speedometer, tach, oil pressure, oil temperature, cylinder head temperature, fuel, and AEM Wideband AFR gauge. I had to install a bus shifter because I couldn’t reach the stock height one. Installed a rear cutting brake, kerosene 12 volt parking heater, dual batteries.
I’ve got over 700 miles on it and it drives perfect even off road.It drives like a Jeep!I’m getting 17 mpg, which I think is great considering the weight and wind resistance. I’m sure I forgot something, but I hope y’all like it. I had fun building it. This is our 3rd bug. I love these old VW’s.

Nice, very nice buggy indeed. ...why not just go with a TDI diesel engine? ...would've been twice the torque and twice the milage. ..I can't remember where I saw it but I did a Google search and the TDI fit in the same space with a slight deck lid mod...not to mention the 500,000+ miles you can get from a diesel engine. ..just saying. ...I'm jealous cuz your car is finished and mine is still under construction Laughing

I thought about putting a Subaru engine in it, but it just wasn’t right. I want to keep it an air cooled bug. I love the simplicity of them. It still has tons of power, I know I’ll lose some a higher elevation, even after I rejet the carburetor while I’m there. But that’s the fun of it! Very Happy

Love everything youve done with it. That bad boy will go just about any where you need to go. The bug on my avatar was my pride and joy some 40 years ago! Still have great memories of that ride! Enjoy and thanks for the smile you put on my face!

Awesome Build!!
This is what I have been planing to do with a Ghia, the one I had needed to leave me 'sad' but I'm searching for another one that is not worthy of restoration... because it will look much like your bug... Love It!!

This bug turned out great, I love the use of the rivets as a styling cue to highlight the body lines. Did you do that with standard steel or aluminum pop rivets?

Could you please describe the gauge layout. How does your speedo operate? With a cable? What kind of shocks are you running?
Here's my set up, just for bang'n around desert roads and trails.

I used aluminum rivets seam sealed on the back side. Thanks for the compliments.

There are pop rivets available that seal.

That Burro is badass!! Awesome build that is seriously impressive. I've been wanting to get another bug and build something just like that, but I don't quite have that ability I think. Obviously a lot of hard work, great job!
