|
|
Hi all,
I recently acquired a 1957 sedan, and it has an odd hole in the dashboard to the left of the steering wheel. It's about 7/16" in diameter, is roughly centered vertically, and is perfectly round.
Anyone have any ideas why it's there? Any accessory that would typically have a switch here?
Thanks for any input! |

I think we might have something here.
Did some looking and it seems there were several accessory windscreen washers available, and one of the styles used a knob in this spot that looks like the other knobs in the '57, and would have had a hole drilled in the cowl for the nozzle.
I'll have to get a mirror out and see if there are any welded over holes from the underside of the cowl. |

Sure enough is!
There are two holes in the cowl that were welded over where the nozzles would have been. You can see them with an inspection mirror and a flashlight. |

... had a hole there too - installed an accessory plug and lighter instead...
Also, from the location of your floor mounted heater outlet - that pic seems to be a 1956... not that it matters... just FYI.

It's a very early 57.
And what's the story on that lighter? Just an exposed element and you push the button down to make it hot? Definitely a 2 hand operation it looks like. |
