A couple of years ago I found a stash with miscellaneous 356 parts, among others an S90 block from 1960 (the first year), flywheel, one head (black oxid, inlet 40 mm), S90 mesh air filters and a crankshaft (55 mm over mains) that some say can´t be S90 as it is unweighted. I´m however pretty sure I read somewhere the first year of S90 carried unweighted cranks but can´t find, nor remember where I saw that publication any more.
The stash was an estate so that poor guy can´t advice me any more either.
Crank numbers are: 616.102.101.00, 13207A, C113276
Can anyone help with identifying this crank or confirm it indeed is for an early S90? Can´t start restoring the engine without establishing it is the correct one....
Dennis

Anyone else that can corroborate crankshaft belongs to an early S90 before I´ll go for "not so cheap" bearings? At least compared to VW ones.....
Thanks/Dennis |

Considering Jack has been building 356 motors for 40 years you could take his info to the bank.
Join 356 Registry if you want several motor gurus advice. |

Ops, ok thanks for the heads up, haven´t had a clue Jack was an authority on rebuilding 356 motors, and for that long too, if I knew that, I would of course never have questioned his advice....sorry Jack.....

I think it has to be standard, have yet to measure once more carefully....as it is now, the main journals are just a hair under the lowest standard factory recommendation of 54.971 mm but not as low as first undersize of 54.740 mm, in fact much closer to the first size than the latter.
