Hello everybody, am new.
I bought me 2 months ago a 1995 Eurovan.
Now is the problem of reverse gear, always a trickle.

Manual or auto? Hard to get into gear, or the reverse gear is making unusual noises? If it's manual, take a look at this link and see if any of the shift linkage bushings are worn out to start.

Hello many thanks for reply, sockets and shift linkage bushings are OK.
It's a CHR manuel.
Now crack loud, and no reverse gear.
Thanks

Time to drain the transmission fluid and see if metal bits come out. If your forward gears are working fine, then there is a good chance you lost some teeth on that reverse gear.

With some good planning when you park, you could get away without reverse for a while. Very Happy

I would be interested to hear how much it costs you to rebuild it. I have a spare that needs rebuilding as well.

Honestly, that looks like someone accidentally shifted it into reverse while is was going forward at a pretty good clip. That's the kind f damage you'd see to the reverse idler on an old Porsche where first was all the way over on the left, to the rear and reverse was in front of it. Someone would take off, shove it past the lockout and chew the teeth right off of the idler and 1st.

That detent and spring (laying in the ground up metal) looks like it been laying there for a while too.

At least there is no guesswork on what needs to be fixed.

Hello, I just read this post.
We rebuild the transmission.
Hello jjvincent, the problem is the arm is held with a spring, this ferder is broken is always pressed at the 1th or 2th gear the gear of the reverse gear briefly to the gear on the main shaft.
You can change all gears, except for the differential.
The shafts and the housing are not damaged so a repair is always advantageous.
Often the reverse gear, bearing or 5th gear are damaged with 02B gearboxes.
Thank you cc-91tech

Thanks for posting the "demo unit" pictures, @cc-91tech -- I found them quite interesting, even though I've never torn into that part of any vehicle I've ever owned. Smile

@FrankLA, we are wishing you well on your vehicles road back to recovery! May it be giving you "much more fun than this" kinds of adventures soon. Smile
