Having trouble with 1&2 cylinders. Compression is over 120 all around. Carbs smell and look like there getting gas. Running Weber dual 44’s that were rejetted for the 1776cc. Carbs rebuilt when rejetted. Plugs are clean with no oil trace. Plug wires tested good too. A lot of smoke when start and the muffler exit on that side is spitting black oil, not thick oil, very runny. Idle screw on that carb doesn’t seem to work either. 44’s to big even though they were rejetted? Also 3&4 side gets up to temp and hot to touch where as 1&2 are cool to touch. With all the trouble I have had restoring this Thing, fells like it just doesn’t want to be on the road again, fights me all the time! Hope this forum can help. If another carb set up is better which one do you all recommend? Thanks. |

Sounds like 1/2 may be running rich. The 'black oil' may be carbon from running overly rich but usually your plugs would show that. Running rich would also cause it to be cooler that 3/4. |

I doubt Dual 44's will work on a 1776cc engine? What size are the venturi? _________________ 1960 Beetle And 1679cc DP W-100 & Dual Zeniths! |

If this is a new engine ditch the 44's for now. Get a single carb and get the break in done. |

I daily drove a 1776 with dual 44's with 36 vents for a while, It was a great engine, super smooth and would rev to 6k _________________ 71 Super - Backroad Thrasher

I had 44s on a 1776. After the hassle to get it right, I wouldn't do it again. 40s would be good. |

Check the usual. Look to see if its dribbling fuel out of the carbs on 1/2 side because of fuel metering needle leaking and pouring gas from the the float chamber into the manifold.. _________________ Ancient vehicles and vessels
