Yes, like the title says. Oh, well, these things happen.

If I am going to tear this thing down to re-ring, I'll send the heads out to my machinist too for a go- over, of course.

What I'm wondering though... is...

Would it be worthwhile to just buy some drop- in 86mm P&Cs, go to a 123 ignition, and maybe re- jet the carbs a bit to compensate?

If so, what brand would you recommend on the P&Cs and what size jets in the Solexes?

What I want to avoid here is a mistake, as aftermarket upgrades that sound like a good idea sometimes are. A bump in power would always be nice, though, because... well, because.

Thoughts?

It's not missing, and not overfilled. Seems my issue is likely valve guides, since it blasts blue smoke on decel as well as startup.

Mainly, I just wanted to know if anyone has actual experience with the upgrade I'm considering. The 123 Ignition I'm confident in as I have done these before. Mainly I'm interested in finding out if the slip in big bore stuff is an 'attaboy' or an 'aw, shit', and what the best carb rejet sizes might be if it's an 'attaboy'.

1720 P's and C's = attaboy

so is a bursch exhaust

I don't like the 123 on a porsche or a vw. 031 is my fav for the 912, recurved 009 - the 0012 is good, as is the 022. any kind of electric noise will drive you crazy with the 123

I had the split shaft solex's, and they were too expensive for me to rebuild, so I built some dell 40's for the application. It was great Shocked

If you have the money Nickies (LN Engineering) are the best. I wouldn't rejet until I saw how it ran.

Good info- thanks. I've had really great results with 123 ignition on 911s and Benzes, but these have alternators and not generators, so you may be right about electrical interference.

I'm thinking that an increase in jet size pretty much HAS to be necessary, though.

Exactly what we've narrowed it down to. Thanks.
