I'm reassembling the heads on my September 1963 (1964 model year) 1500S engine. I'm now stuck on the sealing rings below the rocker shafts.

Are you supposed to stretch the rubber rings over the larger diameter bottom part of the rocker stud?

Hi Henrik, i just rebuilt my march 63 1500, i think i used the black o rings from the engine gasket kit, i used an elring brand. Whether thats correct i dont know. On early engines the rocker shaft studs have that flange at the base, so you are only sealing the small area around the outer edge, if that makes sense.

Checked the parts book and it looks like the sealing rings are supposed to have the same shape as my white ones.

No 13 are engine number up to 672 697 and no 14 is from engine number 672 698.

With some force the sealing rings expanded to sit outside the lower part of the stud. The rocker arm base will then squeeze the ring to hopefully seal.

I do not think the white ones are the correct ones for that location. I used the black ones that were in the gasket set.
