Today I got most of the tear down done. I had been a little concerned about doing the short block since I had problems with 2 V-8 rebuilds. In my searching for local builders I ended up speaking with Kurt Mezger and he agreed to build up my motor. We aren't too far away from each other so it should work out well, and I am excited to have someone with his skills do it.

I dig the car. But wonder. Why the chassis was designed. So that the only way you can get the engine out. Is to disassemble it to a short block.

Do the racing rules allow frame modifications, so you can remove the engine in one piece? Or are you stuck with current design?

Keep up the thread. I love this type of stuff.

I too have a, new to me Mid-engine car. I picked up a 70 914-4 yesterday.

Good Luck.

No, you can slide the long block out the side. I took it all the way down for weight purposes. Not using a lift me and a buddy will just pick it up now and put it in the back of my SUV. The long block re-installation maybe tricky.
